Essential FAQs on the Tap Water Scheme in Malta
1. I lost my VAT receipt - what can I do?
Please request an invoice which will act as your fiscal receipt.
2. My documents are in the wrong name. what can I do?
Please contact me so you can return the incorrect VAT receipt and let me know what name to change this to. We will issue an amended invoice as your fiscal receipt.
3. What is the current government grant available for Tappwater filters?
As of the 2025 budget, there is a 60% grant available on the purchase of activated carbon water filters. The rebate is capped at a maximum of €100. To maximize this, a spend of €166 will result in the full €100 rebate.
4. Who is eligible to apply for the water filter grant in Malta?
To be eligible, you must be a homeowner (or have a leasehold agreement with at least 5 years remaining) and the filter must be for domestic use. Additionally, the electricity bill must be in the same name and address as the Tappwater invoice and the applicant.
4. What documents do I need to submit with my application?
You will need to provide:
A copy of your ID Card or Residence Document.
A copy of an Electricity Bill (less than 12 months old) on a Residential or Domestic tariff.
The Original Fiscal Receipt (not more than 6 months old).

5. How do I apply for the rebate?
The easiest way is to apply online via the REWS (Regulator for Energy and Water Services) website. You can also apply by registered mail to the REWS offices in Qormi. The grant applies to equipment that filters water using activated carbon. Under this scheme, the EcoPro water filter, the EcoPro Chrome SMR and the EcoPro Compact (available in both Chrome and White) are the specific Tappwater faucet filters eligible for the 60% rebate.
7. How can I maximize the grant to receive the full €100?
Since the grant covers 60% of the purchase price up to €100, you can "max out" the benefit by purchasing additional filter refill packs along with your initial Starter Pack. If your total first invoice reaches €166, you will be eligible for the full €100 refund.
8. Is there a deadline for the current grant scheme?
The current Tap Water Grant Scheme has been extended and is scheduled to run until December 31st, 2026, as announced in the 2025 Budget. However, applications should be submitted promptly as the fiscal receipt must not be more than 6 months old at the time of application.
