The Ahlstrom filtration technology was originally developed by Fred Tepper of the Argonide Corporation for NASA for space exploration vehicles. More recently TAPP Water filtration media partner Ahlstrom adapted the space technology to be used in the BottlePro.

This technology is changing the world of filtration because it is not a mechanical filter media. Instead, it removes submicron contaminants through electro adhesion and ion exchange.

Pathogens in tap water are one of the most common reasons people get sick while traveling. Even if the locals drink the tap water your body may not be accustomed to the kind of bacteria in the water. This also applies to potable public tap water and even bottled water in some areas..

The BottlePro with the Ahlstrom filter solves these problems due to the space technology used in BottlePro Adventure you can practically drink water from any source as it is tested to filter 99.99% of all known pathogens.

What's inside the Adventure filter?

Inside the Ahlstom water filter is the active ingredient pseudoboehmite, AlO(OH) a mineral with a surface area of over 500 square metres for every gram of fibre made from the mineral.

Each fibre is 250 nm (nano metres) long and 2 nm in thickness and inside the crystaline structure of the filter the entire void space is charged with a powerful charge field activated by contact with water. The charge is very stable and maintains its charge in waters with a PH value between 5 and 9.

The electro adsorption captures contaminants that enter the media so that its pore size of 1.25 microns facilitates a fast water flow over the media leading to a high filtration efficiency and low pressure drop. [Read more]

You can also purchase single Adventure filters to take with you, just in case.

Customers have purchased the BottlePro Adventure pack for both remote adventure trips and to areas where there maybe some uncertainty of water quality even in hotels and using bottled water to drink with. In these cases bottled water can be emptied into the BottlePro and then consumed.

BottlePro technology

The BottlePro bottle filtration process is developed using the 4-stage Advanced Microfiltration technology. Optional BottlePro Ahlstrom Filter originally developed for NASA available for 99.99% bacteria removal.

Wrapped around the carbon block, it filters out the largest micro-organisms, sediment, rust, scale and other impurities. It also prevents human hands contaminating the carbon block when replacing it.

The activated carbon made from coconut shells removes organic chemical matter, chlorine, chlorine byproducts (VOCs, THMs, HAAs, etc.), tastes, odours, pesticides, herbicides, PFAs and over 80 other contaminants. It also reduces the quantity of heavy metals like lead, copper and mercury, among others.

The carbon block traps particles larger than 1–2 microns. This prevents microplastics, particles in suspension and most bacteria passing through the filter. It also prevents the rust particles and bacteria that build up in water pipes entering the filter.

The carbon block houses our patented formula, the result of long years of research and of which we are extremely proud. It breaks down the mineral to prevent limescale forming, as well as trapping any remaining heavy metals.
